OK, so by friend I don't mean that I'll answer the phone at 3 a.m. when you're looking for validation of a questionable life choice. And no, I (probably) won't pet sit your ocelot while you're off on a penny farthing bicycle tour for two months. Or tell your mom that of course you were studying at the library until the wee hours of the morning.
But good friends and good editors do have a lot in common. I'll recognize your strengths, provide honest and constructive feedback, nudge you if your foot is getting a little too close to your mouth, and help you show yourself to best advantage.
